First off I’d never heard of this author until Holly did a review of one of his books and recommended him to me. I was a bit leery at first but figured I’d pick up one of his books and give it a trial run to see if it caught my attention or not. I headed to the local video/bookstore and found “Fool” on the discount table. My first thought was “Score! This way if it sucks I won’t be out more than $5.” So I took it home and started reading it.
I hadn’t gotten more than a couple of pages into it when I had to set it aside because of a promise I’d made in regards to another book I had picked up but I knew I was coming back to it to get a better taste of the story. I’m glad I did as it was one of the funniest books I’ve read in a long time. The author takes on “King Lear” of all things and really makes it hilarious. I couldn’t help but sympathize with the Black Fool at the beginning and for the rest of the book I couldn’t figure out how he didn’t end up dead with all the plots flowing around him not to mention his rapier sharp wit that landed him in potential trouble more than a couple of times.
If this book is typical of Mr. Moore’s work then I’m going to have to pick up the rest of his books as this one was a delightful read that I would recommend to most anyone. The only reservation being that it has some strong language in it that some might not enjoy so I’d warn you about that in advance. Hope y’all enjoy this twisted tale of dark humor as much as I did and I rate it a 3.75 out of 5 stars.
