I have to admit I wasn’t expecting much out of this movie even though it is a Mel Gibson movie. To me the story had been done over and over again and I just didn’t see how Gibson could make it fresh again. Well I was pleasantly surprised as the storyline was tight and didn’t wander off into details or mini-arcs that are unnecessary to the overall story.
Then there is the performance of Gibson himself, I really enjoyed watching him as a widowed father of one that has his daughter killed in front of him and how it affects him. I could believe that he was really feeling it as I watched the character struggle to keep it together, with the occasional slip, all the while trying to find out who had killed his daughter and why.
I have to admit I found myself completely engrossed and when it finally came to an end I felt satisfied, which isn’t always the case with movies anymore. If you like action movies there is some action in it for you and if you like to try and figure out the puzzle of the story then I’d recommend it as well. Over all it was a solid movie and one I’d watch more than once. I’d give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.
