In a High Place is another in his Crosstime Traffic series of books. This one takes place in Versailles as well as Madrid and the time period is similar to when muskets are widely used for the first time in Europe. The family in this one is posing as a Muslim trader family up from the south consisting of 2 adults and one teenage girl. The time for the traders to leave arrives and they join a large caravan heading south. Along the way the caravan is ambushed by bandits and the trader family is ripped apart and the girl is sold into slavery. At this point the story takes an unexpected turn and becomes very unpredictable as most of Harry’s stories do. I have found that while the Crosstime books are a series they are written to be stand alone books so that you don’t have to read them all to understand what is going on nor do you have to read them in any particular order. I’d give this one 3.5 stars out of 5 and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good quick read.
