Well a little more than a year ago I fell of the non-smoking bandwagon again and have been looking for a way of quitting that would keep me sane and the people around me from heading for the hill at the sight of me during the dreaded withdrawal phase. I'd heard about Vapourisers or E-cigs but didn't know much about them until just recently. As I was surfing the net a few weeks back I ran across an ad for E-cigs and figured I"d look into it and see what all the fuss is about.
I really didn't think that an E-cig would in any way be able to help me and couldn't get the picture out of my head of someone holding an E-cig up to the computer screen to "charge it up" but the more I read and the more I looked into it the more I was liking what I was seeing. I decided to find some of the disposable ones and give it a try.....yeah that just didn't work out well at all. First off the pre-loaded cartridges that came with it only had 11mg of nicotine in them, which is way below what I needed. Then the battery ran out half way through the pack...talk about a ripoff.
While all this was going on I had to hit the mall to do a bit of last minute shopping and saw a kiosk setup with E-cig kits. I decided to amble on over and take a look and ask some questions that I had formed while reading up on the E-cig. First thing I learned was that most people don't call them E-cigs but rather "personal vaporizers" and rather than sitting around smoking the sit around "vaping". Then the guy I was talking to pull his out and starts "vaping" right there in the mall!
I was taken aback by that sight at first but he told me that since there is no smoke he could vape anywhere including on the plane that he had taken for a visit back to see his folks. This started a whole host of other questions about the actual workings of the E-cig. It was explained to me that what you are breathing out is nothing but water vapor and if you hold it in just a little longer than you would a normal cig then you'd blow out nothing. As the conversation deepened I quickly found out that the non-disposable E-cigs come in a couple of varieties...one that you refill with nicotine drops, one one that you get pre-filled cartridges.
I didn't see much difference at first but then he showed me the prices of the replacement cartridges and how quickly you can go through them. In the meantime he had handed me an E-cig and I had been "vaping" the entire conversation. I also found out that the cartridges restrict airflow so you have to pull on it a bit harder than you might be use to. Well to make a long story short I decided to get 2 kits and 2 bottles of liquid nicotine, one flavored cotton candy and the other flavored Mt. Dew, and have been "vaping" for about 2 days now.
